N.S. Arsha, former mechanical engineering student of Govt. Engineering College(GEC), Barton Hill secured 258th rank in Civil Services examination for the year of 2018. Arsha graduated from our alma mater in the year 2017. She is the younger daughter of M. A. Nishad (Rtd. Superintendent, Trivandrum Corporation) and A. Shanifa (ISRO) completed her Mechanical Engineering from our college in 2017. The main source of motivation for cracking Civil Service examination is her elder sister N. S. Nisha who is also the Deputy Commissioner of Police in Tamil Nadu cadre.

GECTAA relaunched merit scholarship for meritorious students from economically weaker sections of the society in 2018. The nominations for scholarship are vetted by the principal and staff of college before grant. Applications for scholarship for the year 2019 is currently open.

Govt. Engineering College Trivandrum Alumni Association (GECTAA) is expanding its family towards the GECB alumni present around the world. A collaborative initiative was launched by the association in order to collect the details of the alumni members. This is done according to the areas where the association is reaching out. This initiative is to be implemented by circulating online forms among the alumni living in and around the particular area where the database collection is proceeded.
Govt. Engineering College Trivandrum Alumni Association (GECTAA) launched its website on 7th of July, 2018. This launch has set a new beginning to the association. The relationship between Flockforge and the association began on June 10th, 2018, with the solid aim of driving the alumni engagement even more eminently and systematically. Eventually focusing keenly on the expansion of the alumni network.
The floods of August 2018, the worst floods that the south Indian state of Kerala faced after 1924. The flood affected the 14 districts, the entire state. The impact of the flood was that bad as one sixth of the entire population was directly affected. The floods were caused due to the unusual high amount of rain that the state received during the month of August which led to the opening of 35 dams out of 39 dams. Many camps were set up for the people affected by the flood. The loss caused by the floods exceeded 19,000 crores when calculated.
